Combined Ministries Conference in Adelaide, 9th June
Invitation extended to Edmund Rice Network
members to take part...
ON JUNE 9TH all staff involved in Edmund Rice ministries
will gather at Rostrevor for a day of networking, celebration
and challenge. While this is a time to celebrate our unity,
it is also a time to appreciate the diversity of our works
and to acknowledge the personal challenges emerging from within
our contemporary world. The call to a 'prophetic quest for
justice' will underscore the themes and activities of the
program. The basis for this is the Gospel and life of Edmund
Rice. Br Moy Hitchen recently appointed to the position of
Promoter of Eco-Justice within the Christian Brothers' Congregation
will be a keynote speaker for the day. Members of the Edmund
Rice network not directly engaged in ministry works are welcome
to attend. Contact m.mcglaughlin@bigpond.com for more information.

Trinity
College
The Kosovich Spirit
A new boat, The Kosovich Spirit, was blessed
and launched at Trinity College at the College Assembly before
the Head of the River in March. The College Principal, Rob
Henderson, wrote the following account of the occasion in
the College newsletter...
MR. KOSOVICH is an excellent staff member and was
an Old Boy of the College. He was a Prefect and outstanding
student from the class of 1976.
Mr.
KOSOVICH initially became involved in the Trinity Rowing program
as a way of assisting the Colleges Rowing Master, Br.
Mark McCabe. Mr. KOSOVICH spent 14 years as Director of Rowing
finishing in 2004. He regarded the river and the boatshed
as the best possible classroom for Trinity students. The
Kosovich spirit is all about using the medium of rowing to
spread the message of Edmund Rice. It is the means by which
young men learn to respect each other and themselves. It is
a about relying totally on commitment and teamwork. The Kosovich
spirit is about knowing your value as a man for others and
a man for God can never be diminished by a boat race.
The Kosovich Spirit was not about winning races. It was about
developing fine Christian men. It involved learning about
communication, team work, commitment and respect. It involved
caring for property and caring for people. The Trinity rowing
community is about promoting a sense of family. Mr. KOSOVICH
gave countless hours to the Trinity community and working
closely with Head Coach, Mr. George XOURIS, guided our rowers
to the most successful era in our Colleges rowing history.
By attending to meticulous training routines, by respecting
each other and themselves and by giving utmost attention to
equipment, the rowers had marvellous success in the KOSOVOCH
era winning the Head of the River for the first time in 1996
and following it up with victories in 1999 and 2004.
I congratulate all involved in this years rowing program
and wish everyone well for this weekend. I finish with a quote
from Mr KOSOVICH:
"The challenge is to be your best highest self.
It is time to let your spirit soar like an eagle.
Let your body be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Really look forward to the contest.
Know your family, coaches, club, school, old boys and friends
are with you.
Decide now that you will be man enough to congratulate the
winners,
whether they be in our boat or another Colleges boat"
That is what the KOSOVICH Spirit is about; that is what Trinity
sport should be about.
