Nick had many practical and artistic skills. He was planner, designer, builder and artist. Especially from 1993, Nick enjoyed, practised and developed his skills using his favoured medium, watercolour. He attended the Albany Summer School when he could, learning and practising new skills and techniques. In 1997, his tutor helped him to gain more confidence and a greater freedom of expression. His output increased as did the quality of his canvasses. Image at right: Poster displayed by Nick at his art exhibition in 2007 and given to Sr. Helena at its conclusion.

Early in 1999, Sr. Helena Brabender (Artist and Head of the Art Department, St. Mary's College, Broome), convinced Nick to work up a folio of paintings for an exhibition that Helena planned for November. By November there were 23 paintings, framed and catalogued. The exhibition was entitled "Treasured Memories" and was held on the 10th of November.

Watercolour - Cyclone Season, Sun Pictures.
Watercolour - Beagle Bay Church, one of a series of views.

Watercolour - Granny's Camp. Portraying rusty iron artistically via watercolour was a challenge Nick worked at long and hard.

Nick's tutor at the 2000 Albany Summer school was an oriental calligrapher. This sketch (Ink on paper) is one of several Nick did at this time.
